My digital media career formally started after I graduated from Elon’s Interactive Media Masters program, but really I started creating and selling long before that. I was in middle school when I brokered my first sale horse. The owner of the barn I rode at had several horses to sell, and I knew the internet better than she did, so I worked out a deal where I would sell the horse for a percentage of the purchase price. That year I sold three horses.
Later, I started an equine photography business, combining my love for horses with my love for creating beautiful images. In college I found a way to combine my passion for humanitarian work and photography through a project to teach former street kids in Honduras to tell their own stories through photographs.
Elon’s Interactive Media Masters program helped me hone my skills, but also continue to see the big picture. For my thesis project I created a website to connect horse related nonprofits throughout North Carolina. I spent hours on the road and put thousands of miles on my car meeting Executive Directors and volunteers of organizations like Horses that Heal, Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Horsepower Therapeutic Learning Center and the Foundation for Shackleford Horses.
My professional career includes time working for Backyard Produce, a local and organic produce delivery service and later Turtle Box Market, an online subscription I created with a partner to deliver local and organic produce and groceries to customers in Florida. While that venture was ultimately unsuccessful, I learned a lot about how to run a business and get an idea off the ground. I came away from that experience with a hands-on startup education and a hunger to make the next venture I joined successful.
For several years I work for Mason Jar Cookie Company, a consumer packaged goods startup that makes pre-measured baking mixes in a mason jar. In the years I was on the team, I was responsible for the digital marketing side of the business, as well as account management with current customers and managing our private label relationships.
I’ve always loved making things. Building something is rewarding, whether it’s a garden in my backyard with my best friend, a website for a client or my own company. I love connecting with people and learning about the things they are passionate about. I love to connect with people and then connect them to people I think might be able to help them.
I’m passionate about making great things and building strong relationships. A keen attention to detail, and a willingness to always follow up keeps those details from slipping through the cracks.
